‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Part 2 Teaser Dropped After Kevin Costner Exit
“Yellowstone” is almost back. The Paramount Network series has revealed a first teaser for the long-awaited second half of Season 5.
The beloved Paramount Network series, created by Taylor Sheridan — which has been running reruns on CBS — first launched in 2018. It has since become a cable phenomenon.
The eight-episode first half of Season 5 aired from November 2022 to January 2023; the six-episode second half is set to debut on Nov. 10, 2024.
Paramount Network released a short teaser for the second part of Season 5 on Friday. “Legacy. You build something worth havin’. Someone’s gonna try to take it,” Kevin Costner’s John Dutton narrates in the beginning of the video.
“What I’m doing isn’t for the ranch. It’s for us,” Cole Hauser’s Rip says, as Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton pulls out a knife from somewhere. There are also quick shots of FBI agents raiding a building, droves of horseback riders and tense conversations.
Season 5 Part 2 also got some first-look images released on Thursday. Newcomers can enjoy a “Yellowstone” marathon on Paramount Network this weekend, beginning on Friday, 8/30 at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET all the way through Monday 9/2.
Last December, it was reported that lead star Costner would be exiting “Yellowstone,” choosing to focus on directing his two-part Western film “Horizon.” In June, he confirmed his departure ahead of the premiere of “Horizon: Part One,” which was a disappointment at the box office.
In September, Costner threatened to sue the producers of “Yellowstone” during a child support hearing, part of his divorce proceedings from Christine Baumgartner. The actor claimed that he should have still received $12 million for the second half of Season 5 due to a “pay or play” clause, noting that the “long, hard-found negotiation” led to his exit. Neither the studio nor the network has commented on Costner’s departure from the series.
Planning for its post-“Yellowstone” future, Paramount greenlit a contemporary series spinoff, titled “The Madison,” which has Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett in its cast. There is also the chance that a surprise Season 6 is officially greenlit, which would center on Reilly and Hauser’s characters.
“’Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement announcing “2024.”
