Starfield Shouldnt Bank on Mods For All of Its Crossovers

Published

on

As Starfield celebrates its first year with gamers, the space adventure by Bethesda now harbors a passionate community of modders. Once the developer launched its Creation Kit for Starfield, a huge variety of mods quickly sprang up within the fan base, as many players wanted to experiment with what they could bring to the table.

One of the most popular routes modders take is by bringing fun crossovers to Starfield. Shortly after the game’s first land vehicle, the REV-8, arrived in the game, the mod community quickly made changes to the car. Whether it’s swapping out the REV-8 for Thomas the Tank Engine or bringing Halo‘s Warthog to Starfield, mods have presented plenty of unique possibilities. Although the diversity of these mod crossovers can bring something fresh and unexpected to the game, Bethesda could also benefit from bringing its own crossovers to life.

Embracing Other Microsoft Properties

Since Starfield is a Microsoft exclusive, this could theoretically open the door for Bethesda to collaborate with other franchises that are currently exclusive to the company. Fan-made mod crossovers have been quite ambitious. From including features from Star Wars to adding Dune‘s sandworms, the community has taken inspiration from a wide variety of iconic sci-fi properties.

It’s clear that many Starfield players love mods, and it could ultimately help the game grow. The demand for crossover content has been made quite apparent, and Bethesda would likely only benefit from playing along. An official Halo crossover would be the most obvious place to start. As the flagship franchise for the Xbox, Halo has gone on to be one of the most notable names in Microsoft’s history of gaming. There has been an impressive number of Halo mods added to Starfield. Not only can the REV-8 be turned into a Warthog, but players can even download Master Chief’s armor set.

Another possible franchise that Bethesda could create a solid collaboration with is Gears of War. With this year’s announcement of Gears of War: E-Day confirming the continuation of the franchise, this presents an opportunity for Starfield to do a crossover ahead of its launch as some exciting marketing. A skin based on Marcus or featuring many of the unique guns from the series would be a unique way for Starfield to celebrate its fellow Microsoft exclusives.

If Bethesda wants an idea of what some players want to see in Starfield next, looking to the mod community is a great source of inspiration. Although not currently a Microsoft exclusive, the first Mass Effect was originally only for the Xbox 360.

With Starfield players calling for Mass Effect crossovers, this would be another franchise rich with material for Bethesda to look into. Of course, Bethesda games aren’t known for bringing crossovers to their base versions, but this doesn’t have to continue to be the case. Following Starfield‘s rocky launch, the game has recently got a second wind that makes its future look more promising. With one of the biggest initial criticisms being that Starfield lacked content, bringing collaborations with other IPs would help fix that further.

The onslaught of popular mods in Starfield has shown that the space exploration title is likely to have a long life ahead of it, but Bethesda also needs to be part of increasing that longevity. After the game’s first DLC, Shattered Space, there are hopefully a lot more expansions on the horizon, but crossovers could also prove to be a successful way to extend the game’s lifespan.
