HyperX's Premium Cloud III Wireless Headset Is Only $100 Right Now
The original Cloud set new standards for comfort and durability in a headset. Since then, the competition among the best gaming headsets has become fierce. Stepping up to the challenge, the HyperX Cloud III Wireless offers plush earpads, superior build quality, and low-latency wireless connectivity. The Cloud III Wireless demanded a significant up-charge over its wired counterpart upon release. This Black Friday, the cordless HyperX Cloud III is affordable enough for casual and competitive gamers.
Many gaming headsets imitate the Cloud III’s large earcups and a thick layer of memory foam. Still, competitors struggle to replicate its fit, which adapts to heads of any size without excessive pressure. To accommodate large audiences, the earcups attached to the headband slide up and down. Esports pros use Cloud headsets because they live up to their moniker and float on heads throughout the most grueling tournaments. The faux leather material used in the earpads isn’t the most breathable, but it helps prevent outside noise from leaking inside.
The other critical factor with any competition-grade headset is longevity. With a sturdy, but flexible metal frame and yokes, the Cloud III Wireless is reinforced at its most vulnerable points. Despite a resilient construction, the headset weighs around 340 grams, so it’s portable enough for competitions or vacations. The lack of a cord gives this version of the Cloud III an advantage in the wireless vs. wired headset debate.
Any time a headset used by competitive gamers cuts the cord, it’s always concerning. Latency and wireless interference can spell doom when split-second reactions win or lose FPS matches. Fortunately, the wireless USB dongle bundled with the Cloud III Wireless has some of the longest range of any gaming headset. The headset lacks Bluetooth, which isn’t shocking since it’s an esports-focused peripheral. Gamers will enjoy compatibility with the PC, PlayStation, and Switch, but Xbox consoles aren’t an option. A 120-hour battery life is another obvious strong point for the Cloud III, and it minimizes how often pro gamers need to recharge the device.
The Cloud III Wireless soundscape is booming, rather than subtle. To amplify explosions in battle royale titles like PUBG: Battlegrounds, headsets the Cloud III exaggerates bass tones. Even so, it resists neglecting mid and high sounds, making it an option for single-player games with orchestral music and dialogue. Angled 53 mm drivers send audio directly into the eardrums with ample volume and minimal loss in fidelity.
Headsets with the best mic quality reject background noise without distorting the human voice. The Cloud III’s modular microphone isn’t studio-quality, but the 10 mm component now has a larger mesh filter for effective noise-canceling. HyperX also anticipated embarrassing scenarios and included an LED light that signals when the microphone is muted.
Our Cloud III Wireless review concluded that only a high price tag overshadowed its excessive comfort and stellar battery life. Now that the headset is severely discounted for Black Friday, it’s a no-brainer recommendation. That said, one of the Cloud III’s main rivals, the Razer BlackShark V2 Hyperspeed, is also on sale. A well-rounded option, the wireless BlackShark V2 is even lighter than the Cloud III, and pairs with Bluetooth sources.
