How Do You Equip Guns in The Stone of Madness?
The Stone of Madness excels at offering both stealth and action-oriented approaches to completing objectives. By allowing you to knock out or even eliminate guards, the game ensures missions don’t become endless cycles of failure.

Game Rant shares an exclusive sneak peek at The Stone of Madness stealth gameplay starring a remarkably resourceful old lady.
Some recent stealth games like Star Wars Outlaws forced resets when detected, a feature many gamers find frustrating. In contrast, The Stone of Madness offers flexibility. If things go wrong, you can regain control by taking out an alerted guard or two.
But first, you’ll need to learn how to acquire and use guns. If that’s a concern, use the following guide to learn everything about weapons in The Stone of Madness.
How to Equip and Use Guns
In The Stone of Madness, Leonora is the only character who can use guns. To equip her with a Pistol, simply add one to her inventory before leaving the Cell. However, you must first unlock Leonora’s Gunshot Ability in the Revelations menu, which costs 600 Knowledge points.
Without the Gunshot Ability, the Pistols in her inventory are useless. Once unlocked, though, Leonora becomes a powerful long-range damage dealer, capable of shooting guards, nurses, and nuns from a distance.
Killing guards comes with a cost. Every time Leonora shoots an enemy, she loses 1 HP, making the knockout option a less risky choice. If you’re worried about a knocked-out guard waking up and causing trouble, just hide them in a bush or closet to keep them out of sight for the rest of the session.
How to Craft Pistols
Eduardo can craft two types of guns: Pistols and Worn Pistols. The Worn Pistol is a one-time-use item and will break after the first shot. In contrast, the regular Pistol can be used multiple times before it’s removed from the inventory.
Gun Crafting Recipes

If you don’t have the recipe for crafting a “Pistol,” you’ll need to purchase Eduardo’s Expert Craftsman Ability. This Revelation will expand his knowledge and unlock new crafting recipes.
Crafting isn’t the only way to obtain guns. You can also find Pistols in random loot boxes.
Best Ways to Use Guns
Guns in The Stone of Madness aren’t just for killing. Once Leonora learns how to use them, Pistols become some of the most useful long-range items in the game.
Here’s how to make the most of weapons:
- Activate mechanisms: Leonora can shoot buttons and pressure plates to trigger them from a distance. This is especially useful in areas with traps or guards, as it lets you skip some puzzles and obstacles by shooting them instead of interacting.
- Destroy obstacles: Leonora’s Pistol can break barriers or doors, which is useful when Eduardo isn’t around, or you lack door-breaching tools.
- Assassinate watchmen: In certain areas, rifle-wielding enemies can be a major threat. With Leonora’s Pistol, you can take them out and clear the path for your teammates.
Gunshots are loud and can quickly alert nearby guards or nuns. Only use them when you’re certain no one is nearby or when you’ve already planned your escape route.
